Sex, Age & Car Insurance
When it comes to determining which sex causes the highest number of collisions, it will shock you to know that both men and women are equal. But it is quite a different story when it comes to insuring your car if you?re a man or women under the age of 25 years old.
For men and women between the ages of 16 to 24 years old, insurance rate differences can be huge. If you have tickets or collisions on your driving record, and you?re a young driver, you are especially penalized with skyrocketing insurance rates.
Young drivers need to take advantage of all the opportunities available to them to keep their insurance rate low. Driver training courses allow for an automatic discount off insurance rates for 3 consecutive years, regardless of the insurance company.
Driver training also teaches students how to avoid crashes and tickets so they can prevent the kind of insurance rate hikes that hit them the hardest.
Many driving instructors report that they don?t notice any difference in aggression and skill between men and women. Even though studies show women in general are better at multi-tasking, this does not appear to apply to driving. That?s why even women shouldn?t be tuning the radio, checking their makeup, engaging in philosophical conversations with their passengers or talking on their cell phone while driving.
Quotes from 30 leading insurance companies showed rate differences varying wildly between drivers, depending on their age and gender.
A 21 year old female was quoted rates that ranged from $3,370 to $7,987 whereas a 21 year old male was quoted rates from $5,826 to $9,672.
With the driver training discount, the female?s rate reduced to $2,983 and the male?s rate lowered to $4,867.
Parents need to make sure their child is driving and insured on their least expensive vehicle. If your insurance company wants them to be rated on your most expensive vehicle, you may want to consider an excluded driver endorsement as a solution. And if your car is older there may be little advantage to paying the extra cost for having collision and comprehensive coverage.
The best way to protect yourself from paying too much for car insurance, regardless of your age or sex, is to shop around online for the best rates available.
